BUS Scheme
What Can You Get?
Under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, homeowners can receive one grant per property to help cover the cost of installing a low-carbon heating system. The available grants include £7,500 for an air source heat pump, £7,500 for a ground source heat pump (including water source heat pumps and systems on shared ground loops), and £5,000 towards a biomass boiler. These grants are designed to make sustainable heating more affordable and accessible.
It’s important to note that grants are not available for hybrid systems, such as a combination of gas boilers and heat pumps. The systems installed must meet specific standards, including minimum efficiency levels, and the capacity is capped at 45kWth for individual systems and 300kWth for shared ground loops. Your installer will be able to advise on meeting these requirements to ensure eligibility for the grant.

Am I Eligible For BUS?
You are eligible for a grant under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme if you meet both of the following criteria:
- You must own the property you’re applying for, whether it’s a business, a second home, or a rental property.
- You must be replacing a fossil fuel heating system, such as oil, gas, electric, or LPG (liquefied petroleum gas).
Even if you’ve previously received funding to improve your property’s energy efficiency, like insulation, you can still qualify for this grant to further enhance your home’s sustainability.
