The Bus Scheme

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Homeowners can get government funding through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) to help cover the cost of switching to low-carbon heating systems. The scheme offers grants for technologies like air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, and biomass boilers. At JCPB, we make the process easy by managing everything from checking your eligibility to applying for the grant and installing your new system, helping you access the funding with minimal hassle.

BUS Scheme

What Can You Get?

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme provides one grant per property to help homeowners install low-carbon heating systems. You can get £7,500 towards an air source heat pump, £7,500 for a ground or water source heat pump (including systems using shared ground loops), or £5,000 towards a biomass boiler.

Grants are not available for hybrid systems, such as those combining a gas boiler with a heat pump. To qualify, the system must meet minimum efficiency standards. The maximum capacity is 45kWth for individual installations and 300kWth for shared ground loop systems.

Am I Eligible For BUS?

You are eligible for a grant under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme if you meet both of the following criteria:

  • You must own the property you’re applying for, whether it’s a business, a second home, or a rental property.
  • You must be replacing a fossil fuel heating system, such as oil, gas, electric, or LPG (liquefied petroleum gas).

Even if you’ve previously received funding to improve your property’s energy efficiency, like insulation, you can still qualify for this grant to further enhance your home’s sustainability.
